Beauty and Frustration of Tumblr and Wordpress

One for the record. I find it rather annoying that Tumblr haven’t bothered to make Tumblr as a platform more optimized for Search. Wordpress is better optimized, every single post will get a unique friendly URL, page title and H1 - not so with Tumblr!

But Wordpress? Oh my, export Tumblr into Wordpress it’ll take an age to customise each post to get all the imagery and video displaying right - oh and then there’s the missing titles. So in the end you spend more time formatting - where as in Tumblr you’d spend less time formatting and more time discovering and interacting - much more productive.

It would still be better if Tumblr was better optimised. EVERY post should have a title - regardless.

Using Neuro-marketing in Content to Trigger Emotions, Not Reason

Elmwood - a UK design agency uses biomotive triggers in its designs, arguing that certain graphic elements conjure instinctive responses from consumers. A cusp shape (think a shark fin or horns) conveys fear or caution, while curves represent softness and comfort.

Neuromarketing tactics could be particularly effective in the retail environment where the brand has just two to three seconds to communicate with the consumer using three to four visual elements.

Just caught this great TV ad from three which appeared during a commercial break while Mission Impossible was playing. Looked it up online and it has its own domain and a bit of a spoof landing page ‘Holiday Spam Crisis Centre’.

Artists pain from not working

Artists don’t get down to work until the pain of working is exceeded by the pain of not working. Stephen DeStaebler (Art & Fear) 1993

6artists,

Hurdles to becoming an artist

The conventional wisdom is that while “craft” can be taught, “art” remains a magical gift bestowed only by the gods. Not so. In large measure becoming an artist consists of learning to accept yourself, which makes your work personal, and in following your own voice, which makes your work distinctive. Art & Fear (1993) D. Bayles & T. Orland.

Who said print ads don’t work online as sharable content?
No one said that, so look - here’s a bunch of great poster designs from McCann Erickson in Australia promoting safety on the Metro in Melbourne - but they’re so good - and they’ve been shared a lot online - get those great backlinks for SEO. Great viral video too…why does a Metro train company need a viral video ad? Muse. Featured in D&AD13
